Keynote/PowerPoint Compatability??

Has anyone else had trouble working in Keynote while PowerPoint is also open? I was cutting and pasting some material from old PowerPoint slides into Keynote and my machine locked up several times. I haven't had this problem at any other time, i.e., it's not a matter of too many programs for memory to handle.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
