Keynote Remote on iPhone won't connect to Keynote

Okay, just got the Keynote Remote app on my iphone. I have iwork 09, all software updates on both. I also know that I need both devices on the same networks.
I've done all of that and yet when I click on preferences > remotes in Keynote on my MacBook my iPhone doesn't show up there as an option.

So frustrating! I need to get this working for work. Please help. Thanks.
