keyobard repeats WORDS!

I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and using the wireless imac keyboard which I have had for a couple of years. But recently, from time to time. when I type a WORD (not a character), it types it TWICE, with not space inbetween the two. There is no rhyme or reason to when it does it or does not. But it is very annoying. And it is NOT the keyboard itself. I just bought a Logitech Solar wireless keyboard and it does the same thing.

Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

btw, it seems to usually happen with contractions i.e didn't
