So my imac's cd drive appears to have died. it will spin up, but it doesnt read any discs at all, will not boot to them, and it is VERY difficult to get the disc to eject. Had this problem a while and just kind of lived with it.

Yesterday my system would not boot. reset the pram a few times and got in, but disk utility shows keys out of order. I have disk warrior, but of course no disk drive to be able to run off of.

Is there another way to get this going? Ive read you can run off a usb but only if you have a boot disc? Is there any work around? When I had a macbook i would have just run from that connected to the imac in target disc mode, but i have since ditched the laptop for an ipad.

Thanks in advance

You could buy the Apple external USB optical drive for $79.
