KeySpan Remote - can it be used to control other apps?

I just got a KeySpan for my front row, and its amazing! even works from upstairs! :)

I just had a thought, regarding its use outside of FrontRow?

Can the remote be used to control things such as system volume whilst iTunes is playing in normal OS X?

Anyone managed to use their remote outside of FrontRow?
