Will probably be a while for those cases. Right now the thickest/most protective I've seen is the Targus Versavu.

Get a Maroo. My now 3-year-old has dropped our iPad about a dozen times and it keeps on ticking just fine. I want something thinner when I buy my iPad Air, but for a kid-friendly case my goodness these Maroos are hard to beat.
