hi guys

thanks to some of you, i've realized that IKEA wooden desks are the reason why i can hear my Mac vibrating...

i was wondering if, instead of getting rid of my nice but noisy desk, there is a solution to kill the noise

what can of stuff can i put between the imac stand and the wooden desk to cancel the noise ?

thanks

Hello,

You could try a thin piece of foam (black?) to match the footprint of the imac.

Cheers,

Ray

mmmm i've tried, but it's not thick enough

i've tried putting magazines too, doesn't work

...is it really r e a l wood? if the whole desk is more or less "empty" on the inside, the result will be resonance and vibration...

no it's "ikea" wood

half empty, nice from the outside, cheap in price

it does very its job as a nice desk for the price

... until you put an iMac on it :(

and i hate throwing $200 away, so i'd like to keep it, and find a solution to reduce vibration

What appears to work for me in general with tower based desktops is putting like thick rubber bumpers that dampen vibrations between the desktop and the floor they sit on. A quick search reveals this,

You may have to do trial and error. I would probably get soft rubber which appears to dampen better.

Good luck, and please keep us posted with your findings :D

This is getting serious - someone should tell Mr. Ive ;)

Try a towel, doubled up - see if that gets rid of the vibration. I had a similar problem while brewing some beer other day - extra towel worked just fine.

Cheers,

Ray
