Isn't it bad to run the powerbook for long periods of time like that? I thought it had airflow through the keyboard. My windows laptop said not to close the lid for more than 20 minutes, as all that heat up on the screen isn't great for it.

no no no, the pb you can run in clamshell mode as long as you like, however with the ibook, the heat dissapates through the keyboard, therefore it is not recommended to run the ibook with the screen closed

that i believe is why apple gave the pb the option to run dual desktops, and have it closed

and the ibook cannot w/o a hack

the pb works fine closed, i do it all the time with my setup with my dell monitor. this looks like a cool device. doesnt seem like it ads much to functionallit, but it does look really cool! i wouldnt mind getting one but it seems to be availble in japan right now :-/

Looks like it could damage the PowerBook if it leaned too much the wrong way or another....

Both the PB and iBook have fans, but the iBook is plasic and looses less heat through the shell. The dual desktop function will only work if a keyboard, external mouse, and external monitor are attached.

I have to say, I don't like the heat that comes out of the PB. It feels like the whole thing, (bottem, sides, top) is heat sink.

actually im pretty sure that the heat dosnt come out of the shell and only through the keyboard, thats why you dont use it in clamshell mode

and yea the pb is going to feel hotter....its aluminum

It's nice but knowing me, I'd probably knock my PB clear off of it when turning around to grab something. That and the cords would be all in the air.

While it's fine to run it closed like that, I've found a lot of the heat comes from the vents at the back (by the hinge) so it's probably not a good idea running it like that for any length of time, no matter how cool it looks.

Looks cool like other users noted...
but my only worry would be if it actually scratches the bottom of the PB.
Makes the PB more like a peice of art :D

A neat idea, kinda like the PS2.

that wallpaper on the display is sweet. I know what I'll be looking for at lunch today.

You know what's funny? That's the wallpaper on my widescreen (ahem) PC's monitor. If you can't find it and want it, send me a PM or something and I'll pass it along. It's a nightshot from NASA I found on their site somewhere.
