Well, I am a lil jealous that the new macbook pros are out. I wish I would have waited a few more months to buy mine, but hey, what can you do...It would be nice to have that extra 2gigs of ram, but besides that I dont use firewire, I probably would not use the sd card slot, and I really have no need for the extra battery as I am usually plugged in anyway. I suppose the battery would have been kinda nice just incase, and the better display would be good too, but oh well. I do do some video encoding but the extra .13ghz probably only amounts to a few seconds anyway. All-in-all this is kind of bitter sweet. My mac still does everything that I need it to do very easily, But I wish I had waited, I suppose when im ready to buy a new one, possibly next summer, they'll be nicer and faster machines out anyway.

anyone else feeling this sort of bitter sweet feeling?

I'm in the same boat as you. 2ghz is plenty for me, I don't use FW for anything, and my DSLR uses CF cards, so the SD slot is useless for me, and I touch-type so I wouldn't use the backlit keyboard . Sure, the $100 would be nice, but oh well...I have a classic now, lmao....

I guess I'll join you guys in the boat :D
I would have liked the SD and 4 extra GB of ram, but oh well. I'll have the latest Macbook "Pro" in 3-4 years :D
I am very happy what they did. Apple listened to everyone who wanted firewire and added the SD slot. I thought this was VERY COOL!! Nice work Apple!!!

I noticed that, all the complaints and angry users of this forum complaining about 'PC laptops' having SD card slots and Apple getting rid of Firewire etc etc and Apple actually listened and did something about it!

... Do you think Steve Jobs has an account on here? ;)

Very true. They did listen to everyone and I think they made a lot of people very happy today. Who knows, maybe my macbook will have another 2 repairs, and by than I get a new one, which I guess would be the new pro, right? I mean, since they have to replace it with the equivalent machine of the newest specs..and since they have now discontinued the Alu macbook, that would make the new 13 inch pro the equivalent. I think lol

Lol, wouldn't that be something...

Now did the Whitebook just have FW400?

Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Unless you guys need firewire, I wouldn't even let these updates bother you. The unibody macbook is an awesome machine, with any specs. Just think about what they replaced. Had these updates not come out, I would have still bought a unibody macbook and been thrilled. Great computers. :D

All i want is the display and firewire. I could live without both of them though. Whenever I need firewire I plug it into my PowerMac G4 and copy it over ethernet. As for the display... hopefully mine will crap out in a year or two and Apple will replace the panel with one of the nicer ones. ;)

I bought my unibody MacBook 2.4GHz about 5 weeks ago, and I'm not too bothered by the update.

The longer battery life I'd be happy with, but everything else doesn't bother me too much.

• 2.4GHz vs. 2.53GHz - I'll never see the difference in real-world apps based on what I do with my laptop.

• 6GB max RAM vs. 8GB max RAM - Again, if I personally need more than 6GB of RAM in my laptop, I'll likely be looking for something way faster than 2.4GHz (or 2.53GHz) anyway. Plus, 8GB of laptop DDR3 is currently very expensive (over $600 at current prices), so I likely wouldn't be going up to 8GB anyway.

• Firewire - eh, I don't really need it on my laptop (desktop is a different story; I suppose if I didn't have a desktop it would be more important for me). I don't plug my video camera in to my laptop, so I personally don't have much other use for FW. Wouldn't turn it down if offered, but I'm not bothered that my laptop doesn't have FW.

• SD card slot - nice, but nothing I'll lose any sleep over. There's a mini USB cable in my laptop bag anyway.

• Improved screen - I've got the silent screen update in my laptop anyway, so I'm cool.

Now, the new low-end MacBook (er, 13" MacBook Pro) is a nice deal for new buyers.

Yah I feel you OP, but just like xraydoc, I'm not going to lose any sleep. Sure, I'd love the little Macbook Pro decal on the bezel, but I've already got 4 Gigs of ram, a massive HD and a 2.4 ghz processor...I'm more than covered for what I do. SD card slot, firewire, dont use em!

I just got my uMB last week. So i'm thinking to pay the restock fee and swap to the new one. But on the other hand: I don't use firewire, SD(my is CF too.) 7 hour of battery is cool but i prefer exchangeable battery.(so i can take it out when i just use AC). The store told me they will come out a compensation plan for ppl bought within 2 weeks. Will see how much is that.;)

FYI, you shouldn't run your MB without the battery while plugged in. The system downclocks the CPU cores to 1ghz to ensure you don't exceed the MagSafe's power. The battery acts as a power conditioner as well, and protects your work from sudden loss if you accidently pull the plug/the power goes out.

I would swap it then. No reason not to.
And there isn't much reason to take the battery out while on AC. Just discharge the battery once a month if you tend to leave it plugged in a lot.

Not upset at all, I don't use firewire, SD Slot, not even. I loved my mac on the first day I got it and I still loved it. It's alway going to be a more shiny new toy coming out, can't always have the latest and greatest.
