Kingston Ram Help. Can only use 1 stick

Hey just bought some new ram for my macbook pro (penryn). When I try to put both new sticks in it doesn't boot. When I have one new and one old stick it boots fine. When I have one new and one old chip Mac os x recognizes both sticks. How can I get both to work? thanks for the help.
