So I missed the deal on the Samsung 830 today. Actually, they ran out of stock.

Are there any know issues for the product mentioned on the subject line:

As per the review on Amazon, it was initially running slow and the firmware needs to be updated on a Windows machine (I don't have lol). Can someone confirm this?

Looking forward to your kind responses.

Thanks.

I was looking and the price was $79.99. But now the price suddenly increases to $117.99???? The price increased in about a hour??

Yes, that is correct. The 830 firmware requires use of a Windows machine. As I understand it the 830 has not required a firmware update since release date. Considering how many 830's they are selling it's surprising that Samsung has not released a fix for Macs.

With the prices and deals on SSD's changing almost daily one doesn't have much time to ponder over making a purchase. If you see a deal it's best to jump on it immediately. Don't be deterred though, there will be another deal coming down the pike from one or the other of the manufacturers.
