I bought one of these for $35 at goodwill, and am looking to kit one of these out. I was wondering what CPU/GPU/RAM/HDD/SSDs work in here
In terms of ram ive seen the 16gb kits go for $35 but seen the 32gb versions go for $112 so ill stick to 16gb in the 8x2 config.
In terms of CPU ive heard that 2 Xeon X5482s are the best, so ill proabably get that if i can score them for a good price.
In terms of GPU the best consistant one ive seen is the ATI Radeon HD 4870, maybe in crossfire if its supported, because of my goal with the gpu being that it has the bootscreen and all its ports working and all the stuff that flashed cards have issues with. I havent seen a better card thats 100% supported, stock apple or flashed. It came stock with a ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT, which is laughable nowadays.
In terms of hard drives, part of me wants to go all out and fill this with 4 ssds, but idk what mix of ssd/hdd i should put in here and which ones. I want to be cheap but still have something presentable.
Also, I dont think this model has the wifi card in it, and I dont know what part im looking for for that.
