My law firm won't allow access to the exchange server for anything but blackberrys. Blackberrys are great, great devices. But, I'd love to use an iPhone. Can't even use OWA because we use RSA SecurID tokens. Here's the best workaround I've come up with so far. It works, but it's really a kludge and it requires a a mac to be on and connected to my network at work 24/7. If anyone can come up with improvements, post them here.
1. Contacts/Calendar: Exchange>>Entourage>>iCal/Address Book>>Mobileme>>iPhone.
Requires my hackintosh at work (thinkpad x60s) to be on 24/7, running entourage, ical, and address book. Work doesn't support macs, but, as long as the mac is wired to the network, I can get access to the exchange server using entourage.
2. Email: Added Mobileme account to entourage using imap and created a rule which copies all messages in my inbox to my Mobileme inbox. Then, on the device, I set up the mobileme using other (NOT Mobileme). As far as I know, this is the only way you can use a different smtp server (I'm using comcast.net) that allows a different reply to address, so that emails look like they're from my work address. Gmail sucks here because the different reply to address still shows up, with a "sent on behalf of" for you "reply to" address. When you set up mobileme this way, you lose the push capability and only sync up every 15 minutes.
Bottom line is that this could workable, but it's not pretty, and there's so many places for things to go wrong.
