I have a trusty Kodak i1220 scanner that I've had for years. Got it when I was on PC before switching to Mac, and it's a wonderful sheet fed scanner — very fast, good paper handling, creates compact PDFs, does OCR.

Unfortunately the product is discontinued, and in any case, they never supported Mac OS with their drivers.

I have an old PC tower that I've literally only kept around in order to run the scanner, nothing else. I really want to get rid of it, so I'm wondering if anyone has figured out a way to run a scanner like my Kodak on Mac OS without having to use Parallels/etc to run Windows on my Mac solely to access the scanner.

I'm on Yosemite 10.10.3

Appreciate any suggestions, thanks!

You might check out VueScan software. It is not free ($30), but it has done a great job with all the "old" scanners I have tried with it, including some that never had any OS X support. There is a free trial period to test it out, and the link below has a list of supported scanners, including many Kodak ones.

VueScan's supported scanner list:
http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/vuescan.htm#supported

It shows support for a Kodak i1120 and an i1200, i1220 isn't listed.

Best to download the VueScan demo software and see if it works.

VueScan's developer is reported to be very good with support, so it -might- be possible to request that he add support for the i1220, if the existing drivers won't run it...

Thanks again guys. Looks like I'm out of luck. I downloaded the demo and found it didn't work with my old Kodak scanner. I was really disappointed, then I realized I didn't read the site carefully. It actually states upfront that my scanner isn't supported for Mac!! :(
