I get a 'freeze' in movie playback every 18-20 minutes like clockwork since 'upgrading' to Mojave from El Capitan from KODI media player devices (e.g. the Nvidia Shield in my home theater). This makes Mojave nearly useless as a media server for such devices. I've read Apple is aware of the SMB issues in 10.14.5, but who knows how long I'd have to wait for an update as meanwhile I can't watch my giant media library through KODI (which supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, etc. that iTunes/AppleTV 4K does NOT). It's very disappointing to think I'll have to copy back El Capitan for ONE issue, but it's a HUGE one.
SMB has never been very good since Apple decided to roll their own rather than pay Microsoft for an official licensed version and that was a STUPID decision. I can't tell you how many threads are online about Mac users having problems with SMB. Meanwhile, Apple has officially abandoned AFP and it never worked right in KODI even when it supported it and the security reset means I can't use NFS until I go in and edit a line in the config file (again) using a recovery volume (sad to think that Apple once supported NFS directly in the Server version and then not only tossed it but broke things so you can't run it manually without having to edit something they don't want you to edit).
If anyone has a 'fix' for SMB freezing, I'd love to hear about it before I switch back.
