Apple appears to have instructed Chinese supplier Goertek to suspend assembly of the second-generation AirPods Pro due to production issues, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In a series of tweets shared today, Kuo said that Chinese supplier Luxshare has expanded production of the second-generation AirPods Pro to fill the gap and is now the exclusive supplier of the wireless earbuds for the time being.

"Goertek's suspension of production is more likely due to production issues rather than demand issues," said Kuo, without elaborating on what the specific issues may have been. Kuo said it's unclear when Goertek will resume production of the AirPods Pro. It's also unclear if the issues affect any second-generation AirPods Pro already sold.

The new AirPods Pro were released in late September and are currently in stock on Apple's online store in the U.S. — it remains to be seen if the loss of one supplier will have any impact on availability heading into the holiday shopping season.

The new AirPods Pro feature up to twice as much active noise cancellation as the original, charging case improvements, and more.

I'll not be surprised if this is a big hardware flaw. People are having major sync and sound panning issues that seems to be introduced by the day one firmware. I expected a software fix soon but it's taking too long, so maybe it's a hardware thing.
What do you mean? I have them since launch and use them all day long, haven’t experienced a single problem.

If it’s a hardware flaw why would it apply to only one supplier? It has to be something that only that particular supplier is doing wrong to be suspended.

It maybe due to some units of airpods pro 2 that suffer from audio drifting issues while on spatial audio

Mine keep disconnecting and rebooting (I assume). It cause a weird effect when one of them turns off any processing and the other one reset its ANC or something. It reconnect after a few seconds, but still…

I’m not sure if it’s just one of them or both, since it cause a playback pause.

Not a demand issue yet it's being discounted more than when the 1st gen came out?

You can get it for $234 right now but it'll be $199 during Black Friday. I don't remember them being discounted that much so soon after being released.

I guess I got good ones because mine have been amazing. I used them on a plane for the first time the other day and when I would toggle the noise cancellation to listen to an announcement or something everything was suddenly so freaking loud that it shocked me. I had no idea there was a baby screaming just a few rows behind me either. This product actually deserves some cheesy Apple ad copy saying they're magical.

I also really like popping them on my Apple Watch charger. I have the Elago W2 Stand for my Apple Watch which is a silicone stand that you insert your Apple Watch charger into and it has a little shelf that is perfect for holding my AirPods Pro 2. It practically seems made for it.

Popping the charging case on the Apple Watch charger feels kinda epic imo. It’s like it’s sitting on its own little throne. Lol.

Demand definitely doesn’t seem high. Probably because now everyone has ear buds already, so 250 for new ones that only offer a minor bump in quality isn’t as appealing. Got mine though for 234 from Target this week, but I’ll return them if they drop to 199 later.

Getting a bunch of audio drift issues with mine. Sometimes it's very apparent and sometimes it's... subtle? The song will just sound messed up. The right one will also just shut off on occasion without any indicator that it's actually off on the device (still shows both are fully charged and working).

Additionally all of these audio drift problems get drastically worse paired to my Apple TV. Almost at all times, one ear is playing earlier than the other. It's frustrating.

Really want to know what the “production issues” are. They clearly didn’t impact the device, since they’re not feeling it’s relevant to tell us, the consumers, right?

Or maybe I have too much trust in Apple on this one?…

I am having sync and sound panning issues occationally, but I can fix them by pause and resume or putting them back to the case and taking them out again. Not sure if this is due to radio interference or firmware issues. I think the hardware is just fine.

That’s not good enough.

If your car had steering issues, would you accept a ‘fix’ to be to turn the ignition off & then on again 😉😏
