As mentioned in another thread, my girlfriend and I are going to California for a few weeks.

We are getting the bus from L.A. to San Francisco on a Greyhound. The only thing is we have just discovered that the station is in Skid Row in L.A. Wikipedia has some pretty frightening things to say about Skid Row, as does an article on the LA Times website, so I'm just asking if anyone that knows the area can tell me if the bus station is in a really rough bit. Would it be dangerous going there at 9am-ish and 5pm?

Thanks in advance for any response.

No it's not scary. And the hours you're talking about being around are fine anyway. I've taken the Greyhound out of there before, too. Honestly, I'd be way more concerned about whether or not your bus seats are anywhere near the toilet on the ride up to S.F. That's not pleasant at all.

Enjoy your trip.

You are really selling this whole "take the bus thing" :)

AA and Delta fly from LA to SF for $68. You have your girlfriend with you, don't make her endure the bus... be a gentleman and take the plane.

Virgin America flies from LAX to SFO for only $39.

Don't be a tool, take the plane. 12 hours on the bus vs. 1 1/2 hours on the plane? The choice should be obvious.

It's really difficult to find american airline prices from ol' blighty. I've looked at Virgin America and it's definitely worth looking into.

Thanks again, who needs travel guides when you have macrumors :)

I've taken a Greyhound to L.A. before but back then there was a station right in the middle of Hollywood, just a block or two away from where the Tonight Show was taped.

Is it no longer there? Not sure what area skidrow is considered in L.A

It can be fun taking a bus trip but by the end, it just seems to drag on and yo wish you were there already. I drive now when I go on vacation rather than a bus or plane.

Look at taking a Southwest flight into Oakland and take BART (subway) into San Francisco. Its much much faster and very affordable.

The Greyhound Bus will take ages.
