which software on my mbpr allows this? l tried iphoto but can't see where i can do this. basically l have a photo of a sofa and want to put in horizontal lines to write the length for an advertisement. kindly give software and basic instructions.

thanks for suggestion, doesnt the macbook pro retina already have a simple software that allows you to write and draw lines on a photo? its not exactly photoshop! just most basic line and texts. do l have to download a software for this simple task?

As simsaladimbamba noted, Preview, which is in your Applications folder. I recently used it to make customized guitar chord charts - easy, though it's capabilities are fairly rudimentary.
