When I think of TNF I think more technical apparel, where as LL Bean just seems like more of an outdoor lifestyle brand (Like Eddie Bauer).

I guess it all depends on what you're looking for. I personally don't care for the LLB look, so for me its TNF, even if it is overpriced sometimes.

A lot of people, even people you never thought of them buying a North Face, has one

I prefer the North Face too, their jackets are so warm, especially the Summit Series

but

I'm giving LL Bean a shot this winter and see how well they do.

Land's End here. Hubby has the long Squall parka and has worn it every winter for the last 9 years and it still looks new. I even wear it when I take the kids/dogs outside to play. and WARM!! oh yeah.

We do hve some LL bean stuff, too, and their items are great quality as well. I'm just not all about the outdoorsy look.:D

TNF is for people that are more active, but I suppose LL Bean serves a purpose as a lifestyle/outdoorsy brand, whereas TNF is just confused about what it wants to be.

My main shell jacket that I wear for winter (in Melbourne, mind you) is a very good TNF shell, but I think it's great because it's both waterproof AND looks good. :p The style is more for daily wear, and the outer shell looks like houndstooth. You can walk around in the rain, go to work, and not look like you're about to climb a mountain. :)

If you wanted good technical apparel, you wouldn't go to TNF. They sell low- to mid-range technical clothing for a high price.

LL bean = rich folk
TNF = every wanna be around town

I love columbia. I can pick it up cheap at marshals, and it take alot of abuse and still looks good, minus the name brand street cred.

Both are fine, but I think Patagonia is a cut above all the rest. The design and build quality on their technical gear can't be beaten.

lol, LL Bean jackets are a lot cheaper than TNF jackets, so are the boots.

I went to an LL Bean store for the first time yesterday and was surprised at the prices.
