I needed to replace the battery on my late 2013 mbp pro, but when I requested that service I actually got a whole new case with a new trackpad, keyboard and speakers. What I'm curious about is if I got a different type of keyboard. It feels like the buttons have a little bit less travel. I don't really mind if this one is a lower-profile keyboard, but I'm concerned if it is less reliable than the old one, having read about dust issues with keyboards on the more recent macbook pros. Is there any way to check what generation of mbp keyboard I now have?

It may or may not be a slightly different keyboard, but it's not going to be one of the 'problem' ones.

It should be one from around the same year. It probably just feels different because the keys are new and not worn-in like your previous top case.
The only keyboard issues are with 2016-2017 models (possibly 2018?). The older retina models 2012-2015 don’t have any keyboard issues.
