I've had my Lacie 2Big Thunderbolt2 for a while and initially it had 2x 3TB drives. After they got full I eventually replaced them with two 8TB Seagate Ironwolf drives a few years ago. While they do work, I have noticed since the beginning that they are quite loud (not the spinning noise but the kind of clicking noise that hds make). I wonder, did I pick the wrong kind of drive? I have them set up as mirrored drives.
What kind of drive would be ideal?

Some drives are just noisy. If the noise bothers you that much. I'd just look at the customer reviews of drives you are interested in. Then keyword search for noise, noisy, loud, clicking, click, &c. If the drives are noisy. That'll most likely show up in drives with a lot of reviews. Because someone will be annoyed and mention it.

I've got a pair of WD 8TB externals which are quiet.

What I have noticed with some drives, especially in a NAS, it is not so much the drives that are noisy, but the main housing that the drives are enclosed in.

I now use a LaCie Rugged drive, and I don't hear a peep from it! :D
