I purchased this backup hard drive on the Apple website. Is it any good? I could not resist the cheap price tag. I will be needing it when I buy my new Mac which will be possibly next week. Is USB C much faster than USB 2.0?

USB-C is a connector type, not a speed. If you are comparing to USB-A (the flat rectangle one), you have to compare 2.0 to 3.0 to 3.1.

It will be fine for backing up.

Good. I just wonder how much faster it will be over my present USB 2.0 500GB drive.

Ultimately is limited by the spinning HDD, I've the 4TB version with USB 3.0, it's fast enough not to be annoying and should be a good bit faster than the older USB 2.0 500GB. My Lacie drive is pretty much full so no point to bench test, equally 120MB/s would be realistic.

Q-6

LaCie is using Seagate drives, and since this is a 2.5" drive it'll most likely be a ST200LM007. It's quite fast for a notebook drive but under certain circumstances the write speed can be slower than expected due to the drive using Shingled Magnetic Recording. Won't cause any issues whatsoever for 99% of use cases though.
