As you know, LaCie recently announced that its newest USB 3.0 drives would feature UAS (USB Attached SCSI Protocol), which speeds up throughput with any USB 3.0 equipped Mac.
Since I bought a 1TB LaCie Rugged Triple USB 3.0 in Dec. 2011 and a new RMBP, I naturally wanted to find out if the company would offer us owners a firmware update to bring this tech to people who bought before the announcement.
Here's the answer I received from one of their support people, I hope you can figure out if what "Jon" tells me is true:

My name is Jon, and I'll be answering your questions today.
The technology you are referring to is not a component of the drives. This is a feature available on certain models of newer Macintosh computer systems that come with built-in USB 3.0 ports.
Any of our USB 3.0 should benefit from a Macintosh system that is using this technology. As with anything, however, the exact benefit will vary somewhat from model to model and device to device.
Please let me know if you have any other questions regarding this. Thank you very much for your patience.
