Simple question, would like reasoned opinions if available :D

80 gigs on my MacBook isn't cutting it... I need more space. So, newegg has a fabulous price on a LaCie 320 GB external HDD (link)

They also have a good price on a Maxtor 500 GB HDD (link)

I cannot, however, seem to find a good enclosure that has USB and firewire for an SATA drive for less than $60, though - something the LaCie has.

I want Firewire because it's supposedly faster - I want USB because I may use this as a bootable drive on PC systems. Is the difference in Firewire and USB so greatly significant in terms of performance that I should spend extra money on it?

Also - if anyone can link me to a decent enclosure for around $30 with firewire + usb it would be appreciated.

Please share your experiences with these brands and give me some recommendations, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
