My wife used to have a MBP and used the LaCie External 500GB HDD for her Time Machine system backup. She no longer has her MBP, and now I have a Mac Pro. I would like to use the LaCie for my Time Machine backup (to "recycle" the drive and not have to buy another one for this task) but I didn't know if there will be a problem with doing this seeing her system info/previous system backups will already be on the drive.

How would I proceed? Do I need to wipe the drive clean (i.e. clean install) before using it on my Mac Pro system as backup so her system info doesn't get "merged" with mine? Does it even work that way? There are a bunch of pictures on the drive so I need to take that into consideration, as well. Also, is this something I can take into the Apple Store Genius Bar, and have them help me with? I know the Apple Store Genius bar will migrate files from a PC to Mac for switchers so I don't know if my situation applies to that.

I'm a first-time Mac owner so I'm not quite sure how many of the intricacies of the Mac system work yet -- but I wanted to be sure before proceeding.

Thanks.
