Lacie indicates that the 1 TB D2 big disk extreme has built in Raid-0 support. Given that the form factor suggests a single disk, what does this actually mean? Raid-0 suggests there are 2 500 GB disks paired together with Raid 0.
The former looks like a single disk form factor while the latter is clearly a 2 disk form factor. Also the latter is described as a 2 disk raid while the former says nothing about having 2 disks.
Maybe I am missing something here, but isn't raid 0 with a single disk an oxymoron?
I ended up getting the 1 TB Lacie disk. While the form factor looks the same in pictures as an older 250 GB Lacie that I have it is twice as long. As soon as I got the 1 TB it was self-evident that this thing has two 500 GB 16 MB cache hard drives set-up in a Raid 0 configuration.
