Lacie D2 External Formatting

I am going to purchase my second Lacie HD and was wondering on how I would go about formatting it to a FAT something so that I can plug it into both pc and mac to use for storage. Any help would be great. Also if there is any pro's and cons in doing this. Thanks Again
 
You can use Apple’s Disk Utility to format the drive and select how you want the drive to be partitioned (if I remember correctly as I did exactly the same to my Lacie about 6 months ago).
