I am thinking about buying one of those, but I have heard on the internet that this drive is not safe. I know all drives fail someday, but I am looking for a drive that will fail later rather than sooner.

What do you guys think about the d2 Quadra?

I have the 500gb version since early summer and have had no troubles this far. I use it as a backup drive of my iMacs internal 500gb drive and clone my hd about once a week, so I don't have it running all the time.

A friend of mine is a photographer and has about 4 d2 Quadras in different sizes and has had no problems. As far as I know they are reliable. But that's just my personal experience and not something I've researched.

Hope this helpes a little.

Can anyone else chime in? I have heard horrible stories about them on forums, and very great stories about them at the same time. All I want is just some insight.

I love the D2's, never had any major problems with them. Saw one once that got dropped and failed afterwards, but never anything else.
