I have a 500Gb Lacie LaCie Big Disk G465 (Triple Interface) connected to a Mini Intel (10.6.3). No matter if I use FW 800 or USB 2.0 it will sometimes mount and sometimes won't (with the message "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer; "ignore" or "eject"). I have tried different cables with the same result. I have formatted it a Mac OS Extended and "journaled", I have partitioned is as GUID Partition Table and Apple Partition Map (Disk Utilities). It seems that no matter what I do, I will eventually get the "disk...unreadable" message, yet I can always get the drive back by reformatting it.
According to Lacie's Knowledge Base, the drive have have a volume corruption, and they recommend that I zero out the data during an erase routine. I will try this, but I'm doubtful.
I'm thinking the issue is with the Lacie enclosure more than the drive. I have updated the firmware to the latest the Lacie has posted, even though it is not tested beyond 10.5. Could it be the enclosure circuitry, or maybe the power supply?
Do any of you have any advice?
