I'm thinking of getting FCP and taking advantage of the fact that it'll natively import AVCHD footage instead of how iMovie modifies the format to Apple's own proprietary format. I'm thinking by letting FCP keep it in it's native AVCHD format, the quality shouldn't be degraded. Then I can share the edited footage using FCP because it can burn to blu-ray. This is where my question comes in. I'm looking into the two following ext blu-ray writers from Lacie and would like to know if anybody has had any experience with either of them?

I did a search and it seems that nobody has had any experience with these two particular writers let alone Lacie in general (when searching under Lacie). I would appreciate any feedback on either of these two products or any suggestions or comments on my plan for the ext blu-ray writer. Thanks.

I would look at these first for the price and service

I can't comment on how their quality is as I only have bought RAM from them but everything was fine. I bought a LaCie years ago when their quality was good but as of the last few years I wouldn't touch anything they make or put together, just my opinion. I think there are better options out there.

Good luck :)

ever since 2 of the Lacie bigdisks failed on me i've been avoiding everything thats lacie.

do yourself a favor and buy a different brand!

... but therefore, they have a great warranty service.
Had 2 out of 5 quad disks failing within the first three months (click of death). Got them fixed without any hassle. They work ever since though. I'd assume they have changed their disk supplier.

Had 5 of 5 giant external LaCie drives fail. I have a pile in my room. Soem are 1 terabyte, some 2. I sent one back and they 'fixed' it and it died again.
Find a different company!
They suck.
