Lacie FW HD - Fan noise

yo

i have a lacie extrernal firewire hard drive that makes a lot of noise.

the noise seems to be the fan.

i read at "xlr8yourmac.com" that someone disabled the fan, and didn't seem to have any problems after 24 hours of continuous use. lacie warned him against this, but said the drive would likely not fail.

what would you say about disabling the fan? would the power supply over heat?
