Hello Everyone,

I have a Lacie 750 GB hard drive, basically an older version of this: http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?id=10270

It's powered by an AC adaptor while it's plugged in by USB.

My question is, would I be able to move to hard drive to a new enclosure and not have to use external power? What is the purpose of the power?

Sorry for sounding unexperienced, but I really don't know much about drives.

Thanks,

Elliott

The issue is USB does not supply sufficient power for the drive. It is unlikely to work on bus power USB or otherwise being a desktop drive not a laptop drive.

Cheers
