LaCie hard drive won't show up through FireWire

So my LaCie Hard drive wont show up on my Dad's iBook G4 1.2Ghz 512Mb, running tiger. It still works through USB though thats anoying because I need to hook it up to a Powersupply and i dont need power if I'm using it through FireWire. It works on my Powerbook and the family PowerMac G4 466Mhz through FireWire and USB, both of which are running on Panther. Is it a Tiger thing? It won't even show up in Disk Utility but the light on the hard drive lights up when it is plugged in. Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance

Try a different Firewire peripheral if possible to see whether it's a non functioning port or an underpowered one (or something else entirely). :)

Does it work if the iBook is plugged into the wall?

yeah i got a 200GB maxtor to work in there fine! i tried plugging it into the wall just now but it still wont work?
do you reckon wiping it (after plugging it in via USB) would work?
thanks for your quick response!

I don't think it's a drive issue so much as a power issue in the Firewire port since the Maxtor works and this LaCie can work with USB.

I don't have a solution for an underpowered port but I think you should try resetting the PMU all the same, just in in case it's some sort of power management failure. :)
