I am looking to get a new external HDD to expand my storage. Have a 24" iMac with 750GB internal, CoolDrives FW800 Case with 2 JBOD 750GBs, but my media (mostly movies) is growing too large, so I want to offload the iTunes library (all music and movies) to one of the 750GBs, leaving my internal much more free for iPhoto, software, and files.

I am in the market for a 2TB drive to TM backup the internal & 1 external 750 (the other external 750 will be used for TM my MacBook). And I have been looking at the Neil Poulton Series from LaCie (the black cases). I was thinking of just getting the $40 box and going with 2 Western Digital 2TB for cost savings, rather than the pre-built or Quadra (eSata, FW400/800, USB) versions.

1. Anyone have any experience, etc. with the LaCie drives, Poultons in particular.

2. Any reason I would want to go with the pricier 2TB quad interface so that my 750 that is backing up from + internal are all on the same daisy chain with the 2TB vs. the $40 box that is USB only.

I would not be getting the MAX but would get the slimmer profile single drive box. The MAX just gives you raid/mirroring options.

I had at one point considered a Drobo, but have heard to many iffy comments on them, and reviews said they are slow. OWCs Quad Raids look really nice and are favorably reviewed, but too pricey. I think at this point I'd rather go backup vs. RAID solution for data loss.

I understand they use 5400 drives and recommend those for the box (looking at a WD 2TB 5400 64MB cache). Speed really isn't a concern, I'd rather have it quieter and it will only be doing incremental TM backups.
