Lacie is like the #1 drive for macs. Quite a bit of people have them here, and use them for video editing.

I've been looking for an external HDD to do FCP work also. Thanks for asking the question for me :p.

I've been looking into the rugged drive and also this LaCie little big disk extreme (1TB FW800 7200RPM,5.5pounds $219), or this G-Tech G-Drive Mini (200GB FW800 7200RPM, very small size, $257).

I like the G-Drive because the Aluminum looks really sexy next to an MBP, but it's also way more expensive..

Is there any reason why LaCie is favored over other brands?

I'm also figuring that since this will be used for a MacBook Pro that the drive should be as portable as possible, so the LaCie 1TB drive seems out of the question...

Hm.

The rugged drive seems pretty good.
