Lacie USB 3.0

I bought a Lacie USB 3.0 card(http://www.lacie.com/ca/products/product.htm?id=10535) for my MBP 17" 8,3. But i found out after i bought it it only works with thumb drives and USB 3.0 drives... is that right? I bought it to plug in USB midi devices. I used one on my HP laptop like 6 months ago and it worked great. I had 2 midi controllers (both usb 2) plugged into it. When any midi controllers are plugged into the one for my mac the midi devices show up in the system profiler, But no software i run (serato, Ableton Live, Arkaos Grand Vj, Mix Emergency) see's any of the midi devices. all of the above programs worked on the HP. Anybody know why this is? Or know a workaround so i can get them to work?
