I'm having a weird problems with the Mac versions of COD4, Team Fortress 2 and Portal. The game will run smooth until it lags and the FPS will go up and down in an unstable manner.

Windows games run fine so It's not hardware.

This happens to me, too. Like, in Portal, I'll be walking down a hallway, and all of a sudden, it'll go from smooth to choppy to smooth to choppy every 4 seconds. If that's what you're talking about, it usually goes away (for me).

You described it perfectly. :D

Sometimes it lags so much the sound went on and off. Should I add more RAM though? 2GB seems not enough for gaming on Mac OS X.

I get the same thing, i think its the hard drive spin up time while it loads a new part of the level. It often happens when music is starting or scripted events such as voices.

If that is the case turn hard drive spin down off in energy saver. I think vsync is a more likely reason.

You mean the "put hard drive to sleep" option? I'll try to disable it and see if there are any differences.
