Lag opening new tab in Safari

Anyone else experienced this?

Running a mid 2014 rMBP, Yosemite 10.10.3, Safari 8.0.6

When using Safari, an opening a new tab, there is frequently a lag loading the favorites page, freezing safari for about 1-2 seconds.

I've recently reinstalled Yosemite, and it is still happening.
Is this something that's common? Anyone have any potential fixes?

I have a 2012 base mini and it's not happening here. Same versions osx and safari.
