I purchased my Apple TV 4K 2 weeks ago. I use it with a SONY Bravia TV in 1080p. I downloaded Crossy Roads and it works fine for 5 to 10 minutes, but then starts stuttering and lagging and is not nice to play. A restart of the Apple TV 4K fixes that, but problems start again after a 5-10 minutes of game play. The apps Youtube and Netflix work just fine.

What could the problem be? Hopefully not a hardware thing? I'm in Vietnam and purchased new from an Authorised Reseller. However there's no customer service and asking a question would mean to send the device in and wait for weeks or months for an answer.

you might try uninstalling and re-installing the game

if that doesn't work, reach out to the developer of the game, it's a problem with their software.

the chances of it being hardware related are pretty small.

I haven't experienced this problem, but I do not play Crossy Roads. My children haven't mentioned anything. Maybe I will play around with it and see if I experience something similar.

Other things to consider, tvOS 13 has been really buggy on some apps. Some of my apps just stopped working with tvOS 13. Maybe this is just another tvOS 13 bug.

Another thing it could be is downloading apps. Probably not your issue, but I have noticed that if I download a lot of apps in a short period of time, or open a bunch of apps in a short period of time, sometimes there is a slow down on the home screen UI and some apps.

One more thing, a lot of tvOS bugs (also many other operating systems), a simple restart fixes them. Worth a try.

I restarted, and deleted all apps other than Netflix, Youtube, and Crossy Road. I tried to change HDMI output formats. Crossy Road is still stuttering. I messaged to the store and they said I should bring the device in. Will try that next.

Since you already went through the trouble of deleted everything, maybe try doing a factory restore.

So you didn't delete the one app that's causing problems?
my guess is either that program is corrupted, or it's saved data is corrupted.

deleting the others apps would have no affect

A memory leak does not mean running out of storage, it's running out of memory.
2 completely different things

I didn't catch that the first time I read it.

OP: Deleting the app that is having the issues and redownloading it should be done before bringing the ATV to the store.

If deleting the app and redownloading it doesn't fix the issue, try doing a factory restore.

If you are still having issues it could be just the app itself, like I already mentioned, tvOS 13 caused a lot of issues with various apps.

You can contact the app developer to report the problem you are having.

If you are still within the return period, I would just return the ATV and exchange for another one just in case it is HW related.

While it is rare for HW issues, they do happen. I have personally seen a 64GB ATV4K with brand new, out of the box, with HW issues. I ended up returning it to the store I bought it.
