iPad mini Laggy iPad mini keyboard

I have 1st gen iPad mini. My keyboard has been laggy ever since I updated to iOS 8. Any idea on what I can do to eliminate this? And if the answer is a new iPad mini it'll be a couple weeks in that.

Have you upgraded to 8.1? Have you tried any third party keyboards? The latter ought not be the only solution... but if it works you might have to try it.
