Laggy YouTube in Safari

The past week or so I've had a laggy YouTube experience in the latest Safari and Mavericks versions. I'm running a Retina Macbook Pro 750m 2013. The page and video load fine but the playback and scrubbing is extremely choppy compared to Chrome. Any suggestions? I've reset everything and cleared the website data then did a reboot, multiple times. Never helped.
