iPhone XS Max Landscape iMessage

I’m a long time iPhone user, never really used landscape texting. I tried it out tonight and noticed that it is spit screen with your texting contacts on the left. Is there a way to show only the current text thread full screen while you’re texting and not show the contacts on the left? Thanks for any help. Thanks

I don't believe there is any way to change the display arrangement. It is locked in.

Nothing to adjust in Messages as far as I can see.

This was possible back in the day pre-iPhone 6 as the screens were smaller.
