Landscape view in iPhone X, iOS 12.01, not working

Just noticed yesterday that landscape mode for Safari and other apps on my iPhone X seems to have stopped working. I cannot find a setting anywhere for it, tried a hard reset, and it still doesn’t work.

Am I missing something obvious here, or is this a hardware problem?

Pull down control centre to see if orientation lock is on - it's the picture of a padlock with an arrowed line circling it - it'll be white if it's on.
