Hey guys at the moment i have iMac as my main computer for my home studio but getting tired of having a desktop and wanted to know if a older MacBook would work perfectly fine for such tasks since i don't have much for my budget($450) and my parents are taking over the iMac. Thanks for any advice you give!

Any macbook can work. But the screen is so small. I'd want at least a 21" monitor if I was doing any editing. If you use the computer just for recording the small screen is fine. I have both a 13" MBP and a 27" iMac.

So what you could get is a Macbook and a larger monitor.

You don't need a lot of CPU power until you get up to mrs then a handful of tracks and virtual instruments
