Laptop goes into unwakeable sleep

My macbook arbitrarily goes to sleep -- sometimes in the middle of a function. There is no way to "wake" it. The only way I've found to make it active is to unplug (and then plug it in again) the power source and restart the machine.

Could this be a video card issue?

You need to have a prince charming come in and kiss it right in the middle of the apple sign and it'll magically turn on. Seriously. Oh, it doesn't work unless the prince charming goes through a series of dangerous perils....and fend off against a Dragon.
