Long time reader, first time poster.

Ive had my mac for over a year and everything has worked great so far. I have a 1 gig ram 2.2 gghz macbook which has recently run into a problem. For over the past year, I've been using SMC fan control to keep my laptop cool and have the battery last longer. As of two weeks ago, I got a 24 inch 1080p Benq v2400w monitor which is connected via dvi using bin mode. I have no idea if it is related or not, but since then; whenever I use my laptop (on its own or with the external monitor), it always is running at atleast 85 degrees with my fan turned up all the way. This is very problematic as not only is it very hot, but the battery doesnt last long enough and it is harmful to my computer.

I was just wondering if anybody new what the problem was and had any solutions on how I could potentially fix it.

Thank you for your time and help in advance!!!
