I have a 10 year old MBP and recently when I turn it on, the screen stayed black, even though the computer was booting up normally.
I thought it was finally broken, but when I connected another monitor to it through it dvi port, the laptop screen came back on as well as showing up on the external monitor.
When I disconnect the monitor, the laptop screen continues to work fine, so it isn't actually broken, and it will even boot up with a functioning screen if I restart the machine again, but if I start it again the next day or several hours later, the problem recurs.
Can anyone advise why connecting an external monitor should make the laptop's black screen active again and why the laptop screen isn't coming on in the first place anymore if it isn't actually broken?
It sounds like a wiring problem but why would it fix itself when I connect it to an external monitor?
