laptop turns on during sleep?

So the other day in the middle of the night I noticed my laptop while in sleep and the screen closed it turned on and the fan starting running, assuming it was the HD.

So i manually put it to sleep then it went back on again, then i turned the wifi off incase something from here was interrupting and it turned on again...

anyoen experience this?

Ah your Mac is to old. It's likely wake on lan.

What OS are you running and would you happen to have anything connected to the laptop? Mice or other peripherals?
