Took out my old mini 10.1" Fujitsu laptop which has a 1.1Ghz Intel Centrino processor and 512MB of RAM, it's quite old...like 6 years old, but it was good back in the day (cost around $2300).

I installed Geekbench and ran a test...came back at 742. The iPad2 scored 721 according to Engadget.

The point of my test was to hopefully get an idea of the web browsing speed of the iPad which is what I use it for 99% of the time. The Fujitsu does great at surfing the web and was what I used prior to buying the iPad1. I'm hoping the iPad2 will perform similarly.

IOS is optimized for devices, and I assume the laptop is running Windows. You will, from a hardware standpoint, get better performance with IOS + iPad hardware.

The iPad 2 will outshine the laptop in most standard usage because the OS is built and designed for use on devices with mobile processors and low amounts of memory. The OS and all apps in the app store have been tested and optimized on that exact same hardware.

Geekbench is the 0-60 stat of computers, i.e., cool number that tells you little about the respective computers or cars you are comparing.

other factors, weight, battery life, screen resolution, ability to play hd video to tv via hdmi, size, etc....

i love my laptop, but as has been said before, sometmes you want instant on to look at something fast rather than wait for a laptop to boot....

tomorrow, my iDevice collection will be complete....ipod, itouch, iphone....ipad...:D

Oh trust me...I can't wait to have the iPad back. I sold my iPad 1 about a week and and had to take out and dust off the Fujistu for web browsing in bed and I was quickly reminded why I like the iPad so much. The damn thing started heating up on my lap and the fan kept going crazy. It sucked.
