laptop wont start after new memory upgrade?

My macbook pro wont start after i installed ram??

when i start the laptop, i can hear my superdrive making a clicking noise then it wont start. screen stays black and the little sleep light stays on.

its a 2.16 ghz intel core duo macbook pro. about 2 3 years old.
im trying to replace the original ram with a patriot sodium 2x2gb pc2-5300 667mhz ram sticks.

could it be cause this laptop wont run 4gb of ram?
any suggestions?

The core duo model is actually now 5 years old(came out in 2006). It will not support more than 2GB RAM.

Yeah, the Core Duo is only 32-bit, and its chipset will only support up to 2GB

Unfortunately, no. Your machine will not boot if there is more than two 1GB DIMMs installed.
